Why Is Giuliana Rancic Famous?

One night recently as I was hanging out with some friends and the Style network was on the background, Giuliana Rancic’s show “Giuliana & Bill” came on.  My roommate, who regularly mocks me for watching The Real Housewives shows on Bravo, piped up and asked, “Now what’s this one famous for?”  For a second, I actually wasn’t sure how to respond.  How do you describe what Giuliana Rancic does and why she deserves her own show?  I came up with a half-assed “Well, she’s an anchor on E! and…”  and that’s when I ran out of things to say.  So I started to ask myself, really, why is Giuliana Rancic famous?  I know I love her, and I know I usually don’t change the channel when her show comes on, but I’m not sure how she made it into the spotlight.  This prompted an immediate Google search and a thorough reading of her Wikipedia page, and here is what I found:

Giuliana Rancic is a celebrity news personality who started her career working on the TV network E! as a co-host on the show “E! News.”  She actually has a background in Journalism, getting her Bachelor’s degree from the University of Maryland, College Park, and a Master’s from American University’s School of Communication, so at least we know she’s educated.  As it turns out, Giuliana’s main job functions consist of her work as a news anchor on E!, as well as her work interviewing famous people on red carpets at glamorous award show events.  She has also founded her own website, FabFitFun, which is a women’s health, beauty, and fashion site.  She is a regular on Joan Rivers’ show “Fashion Police,” and she has written two books.  So apparently, people like hearing what this woman has to say.

Now we know that just about any kooky person can get their own reality TV show these days, but Giuliana’s show is actually kind of nice to watch.  Instead of the drama-filled shows with casts that might as well be high schoolers that we’re used to being exposed to, “Giuliana & Bill” explores the relationship between a regular married couple, and all the ups and downs that come along with that, including most recently Giuliana’s battle with breast cancer and their quest to start having children.  They have to be one of the most (relatively) normal couples on reality television today.  There isn’t nearly as much cattiness involved, and her husband isn’t too hard on the eyes either.  Giuliana’s down to earth personality make her a very likeable character on all her television appearances, whether it’s on her own show, or hosting the red carpet of the Academy Awards.

The moral of the story is that Giuliana Rancic is actually a very talented woman who went from interviewing celebrities to becoming one herself.  Her show is a breath of fresh air, and I have to say I wish there were more Giuliana Rancic’s in the reality TV show realm.  So now, next time someone asks you why this woman is famous, you’ll finally be able to answer!
